Female Engineers for a Day
“Female Engineers for a Day” is a national initiative that encourages girls in basic and secondary education to consider pathways in engineering, science and technology. Its main goal is to challenge the idea that STEM fields are predominantly male and to counter the stereotypes that influence educational and career choices.
Técnico participates in this initiative in collaboration with partner institutions, helping to promote broader and more diverse participation in engineering and technology.
By engaging younger students at an early stage, the programme contributes to a more inclusive vision of engineering and to a more balanced representation of women in STEM.
The network of partnerships comprised 55 schools/groups of schools, 19 higher education institutions and 88 partner entities, 11 of which are municipalities.
The activities, which range from engineering challenges and study visits to mentoring and role model actions and workshops, always have a multidisciplinary component and complement the school program and involve a large network of partnerships from various sectors of activity.
The organization of the Girls in ICT Week continues, one of the most anticipated activities throughout the school year, as well as the celebration of other events with a view to strengthening the Program in the fight against the segregation of professions, increase of women in technology and engineering in Portugal and the promotion of equality between men and women in education and employment.
Promoted by the Portuguese Government, the Engenheiras Por Um Dia Program is part of the National Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination – Portugal Mais Igual and, since its creation, in 2017, it has already reached 12,554 young people in the 3rd cycle and secondary education, through laboratory practical activities, role model sessions and mentoring.
