Diversity and Gender Balance

Partnerships

Técnico promotes gender equality and inclusion not only through its own initiatives, but also through scholarships and partnerships with external organisations. These collaborations help expand opportunities, strengthen networks, and increase the visibility of women in science, engineering and technology.

  • iGen – Fórum Organizações para a Igualdade Técnico was the first educational institution to join iGen, a network comprising 74 national and international organisations from the public, private and social economy sectors operating in Portugal, which together account for around 2% of Portugal’s GDP. A member of iGen since 2017, Técnico has taken on the shared commitment to strengthen and highlight its organisational culture of social responsibility by incorporating the principles of equality between women and men in the workplace and in employment into its strategy and management model. Técnico also participates in two working groups within this forum: WG4 – Equality Measures, and WG5 – iGen Training Academy.
  • GSW – Global Stem Women Since 2025, Técnico has been formally represented in the STEM Ambassadors network, with the aim of promoting women’s participation in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This network enables the establishment of contacts, the fostering of collaborations and the development of relevant partnerships in promoting policies that support gender diversity and inclusion. It also contributes to reducing gender inequality in these sectors through the monitoring, quantification and dissemination of initiatives, notably at the annual STEM WOMEN CONGRESS (SWC).
  • Pacto contra a Violência (in Portuguese) In April 2023, the Management Board of Técnico issued a positive statement on the institution’s accession to an initiative of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), aimed at preventing and combating domestic violence and gender-based violence. The protocol formalising this accession, scheduled to be signed in 2026, reflects Técnico’s commitment to developing organisational practices for the prevention of and response to domestic violence, gender-based violence and human trafficking. This commitment will be supported by the structures of the National Support Network for Victims of Violence (RNAVVD) and the Support and Protection Network for Victims of Human Trafficking (RAPVTSH).
  • Scholarships In collaboration with partners, Técnico has set up scholarship schemes to support students with high academic potential, some of which are specifically aimed at female students, such as the scholarships Feedzai Women in Science and TagEnergy Women in Energy  for female students who wish to continue their studies and undertake research.
